Because of the overwhelming popularity of the Slingbox Pro, Sling Media has since been bought out by Dish Network’s parent company EchoStar.

Both of these systems allow you to use your internet connection to maintain control over your home cable box, DVR and DVD player, even from handheld devices.

Your choice of handheld devices may be the only determining factor in choosing which of these location free player products would be best for you.

Each of them is designed to be compatible with different hand helds so you’d need to check this out if you plan on using one in conjunction with your player.

Sony’s biggest drawback is the tech savvy requirement in getting it set up properly.

On the other hand, the Slingbox Pro or Slingbox Solo are pretty straight forward and simple in comparison.
